Overview

Fumie Yamada (山田 フミエ, Yamada Fumie) is a member of the Yamada Circus Troupe who serves as the instructor of the Girls Dance Group.

Appearance[]

Fumie is a middle-aged woman with dark hair, long eyelashes, a gaunt face and wears lipstick.

She wears a long sleeved shirt that is adorned by a cloak that is tied like a scarf.

Personality[]

When it comes to practice for the dance performance, Fumie has a drill instructor like behavior as she would insult someone whenever they were doing poorly. As such, her personality can come across as rather intimidating. Despite it, she is not above giving praises to other people when they have done a good job.

Fumie, who worked alongside Yamada who once served as a spy for the Imperial Army, has no qualms about killing their foes. Her brutal manner of assassination even shocked both Tsukishima and Tanigaki, both of whom are soldiers that fought in war.

Background[]

As a part of the Yamada Circus Troupe, Fumie performed all over Russia and their tour ended up becoming a success. At the same time, Yamada and his troupe had been secretly gathering intelligence from all over Russia, which he reported to the Imperial Army. Afterwards, they returned to Japan and made their preparations to perform in the town of Toyohara.

Plot[]

Karafuto Circus Arc[]

When Genjirou Tanigaki and Hajime Tsukishima are relegated to the Girls Group dance for performing horribly at acrobatic acts, Fumie Yamada tries to encourage them to perform better. Her behaviour intimidates Tanigaki but Tsukishima is unnerved by her harsh words.

As she continues to coach the Girls Group dance, she finds that Tanigaki is unable to keep up with the rest of the routine and reprimands him. Later, on the day of their opening in Toyohara, Fumie gets ready along with the rest of their troupe. Once the Karafuto show had began and the Girls Group had finished their dance, Fumie calls out to Tanigaki and with a puff of her cigarette, compliments him.

When some Russian hitmen attempts to kill Sugimoto, believing him to be Yamada, they are subdued by Sugimoto's Group as two are killed while the third is captured for interrogation. After learning of their purpose to kill Yamada for his past as a spy, Fumie calls Yamada a third rate spy and shoots the Russian, killing him. Fumie tells Sugimoto's Group to bury the Russians beneath the tent and that they will leave Toyohara the next morning.

Trivia[]

  • Yamada and Fumie are brother and sister, but they pretend to be a married couple. [1]
  • Fumie's surname Yamada means "mountain, hill" (山) (yama) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da).
